Community Encouraged to Wear Blue on April 4 and Support Child Safety Initiatives
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to foster awareness and support efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of children in our community. In 2024, Trinity County Child Welfare Services (CWS) received approximately 200 reports of child abuse, highlighting the urgent need for prevention and support.
To bring attention to this issue, the community is invited to participate in Wear Blue Day on April 4—a national movement showing solidarity for children and families. Residents, businesses, and organizations can wear blue to promote awareness and spark conversations about child safety.
In addition, a pinwheel display will be set up in front of Ace Hardware in Weaverville throughout April. Each of the pinwheels represents a report of child abuse made in Trinity County last year. These pinwheels serve as a powerful reminder of the work still needed to protect children and support families.
It Takes a Village: Tips for Families & Communities
Creating safe and nurturing environments for children is a shared responsibility. Here’s how everyone can help:
✔ Be There – Show up and support the kids in your life.
✔ Listen & Encourage – Be a trusted, judgment-free adult.
✔ Stay Aware – Recognize signs of stress in parents and children.
✔ Lend a Hand – Small acts, like babysitting or checking in with parents, help.
✔ Speak Up – Report concerns to protect children’s safety.
Beyond these efforts, the community can get involved by volunteering with local family support programs, attending educational events, and spreading awareness on social media. Schools, businesses, and faith organizations are also encouraged to take part in prevention initiatives and share resources that help strengthen families.
By working together, Trinity County can create a community where every child feels safe, supported, and valued.
